Report of attendees of the Urology Residents' Course, 24th-26th September, 2009 at Singapore

Dr Vijay Pramod Sawkar, Indonesia
URC at Singapore is my first experience to attend urology course abroad. It was very fascinating to meet other residents across the Asia. We get the chance to know about the system of urology training on another country. And from the faculty, I got a lot of knowledge, especially “the way of thinking” when facing a case.

On observership we got a chance to join how daily routine is going on. From morning report, round ward, going to OT till Pathology Board. It was nice to meet the Head of Urology Department & other consultant, being involved in the discussion. Also got a chance to try the Uro-mentor & Lap-mentor. It was very nice.

Dr Yonas Hutasoit, Indonesia
URC really gives me a lot of experiences, a lot of new perspectives in my urology training. The 3 days attachment also give a lot of advantages, and also give the opportunities to observe the recent advances in urologic surgery. We residents from Indonesia have the opportunity to see how the urologic services carried out in Singapore. I also want to thank all the faculties and all the staff members who worked very hard to organize the URC and the 3 days observerships. I hope in the future these events will be held regularly and more residents from more Asian countries will come and can share their local experiences in Urology service and they also can gain many advantages from these events.

Dr Bobby John, India
I was privileged to step in to one of the prestigious institute in Singapore (Tan Tock Seng Hospital) and I sincerely thank you all for the efforts you took in making them memorable days in my life. Though I have used flexible ureteroscope in few patients my experience is minimal, I personally feel this is a very useful simulator for trainees. The initial introduction about the instrument, accessories, various maneuvers and tips and tricks of ureteroscopy were really helpful. The demonstration of catching stone using basket in efficient way will be helpful in not wasting time while doing in patient where time is precious. Some tricks of lasing and use of access sheath was also dealt with. There was enough time for each trainee to practice at his own pace. As all instruments used are used in real time situation, it gave almost same feeling of doing ureteroscopy. One of the drawbacks was the friction felt during advancement of the scope at all times. I feel colouring the calyces with different colours can help identify which calyx with out opening the box. The model can be used for refining the 3 dimensional orientation needed while using the flexion and deflexion lever. Overall I rate it good and worthy.
