The Asian Society for Female Urology, the
Asia Pacific Continence Advisory Board & the
Society for Continence (Singapore) jointly organized a 3 day
instructional course on the Contemporary
Management of Urinary Incontinence for
doctors, nurses & continence advisors from
the Asia Pacific region. The course was
conducted by a local teaching faculty with
doctors and nurses from our local hospitals
making up most of the registered
participants. The main feature of the event
was an Urodynamics hands-on
workshop/instructional course organized by
ASFU, APCAB, SUA and the Society for
Continence (Singapore) in
conjunction with the Singapore Urological
Association’s Annual Urofair held from 21-23
February 2005.
Some 80 local medical professionals
from the region attended this first of its
kind hands-on workshop in
Singapore.
Professor Derek Griffiths from USA was the
course Instructor and Dr Pearlyn Quek
convened the entire meeting. Live case
demonstrations were conducted at the Changi
General Hospital, Singapore.
The 7th Scientific Meeting of the Asian
Society for Female Urology (ASFU) was held
in
Bangkok, Thailand on 9-11 November 2005. 200
delegates from the region attended the
meeting. The overseas invited speakers were
Prof Howard Goldman, Prof Philip van
Kerrebroeck and Prof Helmut Madersbacher.
The 1st edition of the ‘Approach to Female
Urology-Reflecting Asian Views’ textbook of
the Society was launched during this
meeting. 100 copies were sold on the spot.
Prof Bernard Haylen was invited to give a
state-of-the art lecture at the ASFU
workshop organized in-conjunction with the
International College of Surgeons’
Scientific Meeting held on the 1 & 2 April
2006 in Singapore and he
was conferred an Honorary membership of our
Society during the event.
The society was invited to present a
comprehensive Training Program in Female
Urology for the Asia Pacific Region at the
IUGA Annual Congress in Copenhagen plus develop
training centers in
Asia for this specialty. Prof
Peter Lim presented the ASFU Syllabus & the
centers willing to accept Asian
Postgraduates were in
Singapore,
Bangalore, Kuala Lumpur, & Taiwan at a
Pre-Congress event in
Copenhagen.
The 8th ASFU meeting -Female Urology &
Incontinence workshop was held in Bali,
Indonesia
on
24th August 2006
in conjunction with the Asian Congress of
Urology.
The 9th ASFU/APCAB scientific meeting was
scheduled to be
in
Yogjakarta in July 2007 but was
cancelled due to an earthquake disaster in
that town.
ASFU, APCAB and Society for Continence (Singapore) jointly organized a
seminar on ‘The latest treatment in OAB’ for
General Practitioners in Singapore on 8th September 2007. Professor
Schahnaz Alloussi, Chief, Urology of
Department, Academic Hospital,
Neunkirchen, Germany was specially invited to
deliver the lecture and to present his
findings.
ASFU, College of Family Physicians & Society
for Continence (Singapore)
jointly organized a seminar on ‘OAB’
and launched Clinical Practice Guidelines
for the Treatment of Incontinence in July
2008.
ASFU and the National University of
Singapore jointly organized a Public Forum
on
‘Pelvic
Floor Health’ in July 2008.
The 10th ASFU workshop would be held at the
Asian Congress of Urology meeting in
Delhi,
India on 2 October 2008. The theme is
‘Recent Advances in Female Urology,
Neurourology & the Overactive Bladder ‘.
The ASFU & the Society for Continence (Singapore) would
be joining the ‘Third Japan-Asean Men’s
Health & Aging’ conference to run a
Urodynamics & Urinary Incontinence hands-on
workshop for one day in Nov/Dec 2008.
