Asian Society of Endourology (ASE)
2007-2008

Dr Michael Y C Wong,
President, Asian Society of Endourology

The Asian Society of Endourology (ASE) was formed in August 1998 for the primary purpose of training and education. This is achieved by providing high quality endourology courses in Asia and by identifying Asian Endourology Centers which are willing to provide training opportunities for urology residents. Secondly, ASE seeks to represent the Asian voice in the international field of endourology, which we achieve by being present at WCE Board of Directors. (Dr Mahesh Desai & Dr Michael Wong)

On its own initiative, the ASE is linked to the Urological Association of Asia (UAA) and submits biennial reports to the UAA Executive Council. ASE has not only organized all the endourology programmes during ACU from 1998 to 2008 but also many other workshops in various countries (see attached table for list of meetings to date).

Future

The establishment and growth of ASE has been remarkable as it maintains its focus on development of high quality educational programmes. It would continue to work closely with UAA and Asian School of Urology moving forwards.

The growth of ASE for the next 5 years depends on bringing in new leadership and internationally recognized Asian urologists to spearhead the society. In this respect we are seeking the advice of UAA Council members to nominate 2 representatives to be in ASE umbrella. We are looking at representatives who can conduct workshops and lead endourology for the next 5 years. Please send your suggestions to email@drmichaelwong.com

Personally, I felt that I have led ASE as far as I can and look forward to passing on the baton to new ASE leaders.
