Asia-Pacific Society of
Uro-oncology
2007 – 2008
Dr
Christopher Cheng (Singapore)
Immediate Past
President
I am
pleased to report that the APSU had a
successful meeting in Manila from 29th
November 2007 to 1st December 2007. Detailed
discussions were held on guidelines as
planned and the scientific program in
conjunction with the Philippines Urological
Association’s 50th Anniversary was mainly on
oncology. Thanks to Dr Jason Letran who is
also the meeting’s scientific chair, the
meeting was a great success. We, however,
had to cancel the business meeting.
Originally, we hoped to
plan for the 9th Asian Congress of Urology,
New Delhi, India meeting and hand over the
presidency to Professor Hideyuki Akaza but
due to last minute absence of several
members we don’t have a quorum. Hence, when
I returned from the Philippines Meeting, I
sent out two emails dated 3rd December 2007
and 2nd January 2008 proposing
a)
Professor Hideyuki Akaza to take over the
presidency of APSU with immediate effect.
This was planned and he has kindly agreed
the last time when we met at Bali).
b) Dr Bill Lynch to
assume the Vice-President. Bill is the
Congress Organizing Chairman of the Societe
Internationale Urologie and he has organized
the stand alone APSU in Sydney successfully.
He also has plans to expand the APSU
activities around North Asia in particular
to tie in with the SIU 2009 in Shanghai.
c) Professor Hideyuki
Akaza to nominate the rest of the members
namely the Secretary, Treasurer and
Committee Members.
The
proposal received no objections.
I
wish APSU every success under the able
leadership of Professor Hideyuki Akaza.
