Report on 63rd Annual Scientific Meeting of Urological Society of Australia & New Zealand
Narmada P Gupta
President, UAA
The 63rd Annual Scientific meeting of Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand was held in Perth, Western Australia from Sunday 21st to Wednesday 24th February 2010. Dr. David Malauf was the President and Dr. Andrew Ten was the convenor of this conference.
I delivered the inaugural UAA lecture in the plenary session of this meeting on 22nd February. The title of the UAA lecture was “Robotic Urologic Surgery – AIIMS experience” in which the experience of robotic urologic surgery at our center was presented. 430 patients underwent robotic urological surgery at the AIIMS, New Delhi, between 17th July, 2006 and 31st Dec, 2007. Apart from radical prostatectomy, which was done in 171 cases, a large variety of other robotic surgeries was performed like robotic pyeloplasty in 141 cases, radical cystectomy, radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, ureteroneocystostomy, VVF and UVF repair. The delegates appreciated the lecture and complimented on the variety of procedures that can be performed by robotics.
I also participated in the symposium on BPH on 24th February. The session was moderated by Dr. Peter Gilling from New Zealand. I delivered a lecture on surgical treatment: ‘TURP and OP in the modern era’ in this symposium. Presidents from all member nations of UAA were invited to attend this congress.
The presidents of urological associations of Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Srilanka and representatives from Singapore and Malaysia attended the Congress. This is a good beginning of the growing relationship between the USANZ and Asian nations. We hope this collaboration will grow in future and there will be closer interaction with Australia and New Zealand.
